CARAMEL CUTS                             Punahou School
½ cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ cups flour
2 TSP. Vanilla
2 TSP. Baking powder 

Melt butter, add brown sugar and blend.  Add eggs, vanilla, and dry ingredients.  Pour into a greased 8 by 8 inch pan.  Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.

This is Sharleen’s, Punahou LXV (fellow 1965 graduate), version of the above recipe! 

1 cup butter
3 ½ cups brown sugar
1 1/4 TSP. Vanilla
2 cups flour
1 ½ TSP. Baking powder
3 large eggs
3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Melt butter in a small saucepan to the boiling point.  Pour into a mixing bowl, add sugar and blend.  While warm, add eggs and vanilla.  Add dry ingredients and nuts.  Pour into a (greased) cookie pan (a Baker’s Secret 17 1/4" X 11 ½ “ X 1" works well). 

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Cut into bars when slightly cooled.
