Crust:

 

½ c softened butter
1/4 c sugar
1 c sifted flour
Mix butter, sugar and flour until crumbly. Press evenly in a 9x9 or 7x11 pan. Bake 10‑12 minutes at 400 degrees. Don't brown.

 

Filling:

 

1/3 c sifted flour
½ tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
½ c walnut bits
1 tsp. vanilla
½ c chopped dates
Mix together flour, baking powder, salt ‑ set aside.

Beat eggs, add brown sugar and dates ‑ blend well.

Add to date mix flour mix, vanilla, and nuts.

Spread evenly over baked crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still hot.
