SWEDISH NUTS                                                                                    From Laura Pitts who got it from friend Susan Strickland

“1 pound pecan halves

2 egg whites

1 cup sugar

3/4 - 1 stick of butter (use salted butter, this isn’t one of my recipes)

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Beat the egg whites until stiff.  Fold in the sugar a little at a time.  Fold the pecans into egg white and sugar mixture.  Put the butter in a broiler pan or other large oven-type pan and melt in the preheated oven.  Take pan with melted butter out of the oven.  Spread the pecans into the melted butter.  Bake for 25 - 30 minutes stirring every 10 minutes.  Separate nuts as they cool.  Store in a tight container and they won’t go bad before gobbling them all up! “
