TESTING YOUR INGREDIENTS Basic
HOW TO TELL IF YEAST, BAKING POWDER AND BAKING SODA ARE NO LONGER ACTIVE:
Mix 1/4 cup of lukewarm water (105 - 115 degrees), 1 package of dry yeast and 1 TSP. Of sugar in a small bowl and set aside in a warm dry spot for 5 minutes. If the mixture bubbles and froths, the yeast is viable.
Place 2 TSP.. Of baking powder in a small bowl and add 1 TBSP. of boiling water. If the mixture foams dramatically, the baking powder hasnít lost its punch.
Place 1 Ĺ TSP.. Of baking soda in a small bowl and add 1 TBSP. of vinegar. If the mixture doesnít fizz, buy a new box.
